* The 1989 award winning film "Dead Poets Society" starring
Robin Williams as John Keatting, the extraordinary English poetry teacher
was based on a true story. The real life teacher was Ron Pickering whose
unorthodox ways of teaching English poetry at a small town American school
were diarised by one of his inspired pupils. A number of Pickering's techniques
including standing on a desk to view the world from a different perspective
were portrayed in the film. The British school setting and tragic student
suicide were fictitious events incorporated into this Hollywood production
for dramatic effect. Bruce Copley is widely regarded as a modern, real
life version of John Keatting.
Holistic principles and practices can be usefully applied to virtually
any facet of our living, working, loving and communicating. When they
are this naturally reawakens in us our lost love of learning and our forgotten
sense of wonder and connection.
